Washing instructions
Washing instructions are certainly important to go through so that your garments stay beautiful for a long time.
All items from Giordano include a label with information about the item. This also contains the washing instructions.
Keeping your garments looking great for a long time starts with proper care. We are happy to share our washing and care tips with you. Please note: Our washing instructions are advisory. Every washing machine is different and has different washing programs. We cannot be held responsible for washing errors and/or damage that occurs while following the advice below.
The important thing remains: never wash your beautiful clothes too often.
- Before you start washing, it is very important to look carefully at the wash labels. These are located on the inside of your garment. Because there are many different laundry labels, we explain them at the bottom of this page.
- When you know how to handle the item you can get started. Here is some important information before you start washing.
Colors
It is essential that you wash colour with colour and white with white. When you wash coloured clothes with black clothes together, there is a good chance that the tinted clothes will get a grey glow. So always make sure that you have three types of combinations: a white wash, a colourful/coloured wash and a black wash.
Do you want to keep the colour as optimal as possible? Then wash your garments with a dash of (clothing) vinegar. This ensures that the colour remains in the product. It is also advisable to wash your items inside out.
Finally, the method of washing depends on the type of fabric your garment is made of. See below for the different materials and explanations.
Materials
Acrylic:
This material can be washed at a low temperature, at pre-cure no higher than 30 degrees. Let the product dry lying down . We do not recommend ironing these products. If you do, use the lowest possible temperature. If you wash acrylic too hot, it will lose its elasticity.
Elastane: (Spandex)
The products with this material are best washed according to the washing instructions of the other fibers - since there is often only a small hint of elastane woven into the clothing.
Cashmere:
Clothing made of cashmere should be washed carefully by hand and not in the washing machine. This fabric is very sensitive and shrinks quickly. Once you have washed it, it is advisable to roll it dry in a towel Then repeat with another towel and then let it dry flat.
Linen:
Preferably do not wash the item higher than 30 degrees. This is because this fabric shrinks quickly. Linen is a fabric that dries quickly. Linen can also be ironed if necessary.
Polyamide/Nylon:
We recommend washing products made of Nylon no higher than 30 degrees. Ironing can be done at a low temperature. You do not need to put products with this material in the dryer. It dries very quickly.
Polyester:
This fabric can be washed up to a temperature of 50 degrees. We recommend washing the clothes inside out to avoid pilling. Ironing of these products is often not necessary.
Viscose:
Products made of viscose can be washed at a low temperature. This is because this fabric shrinks quickly. Wash the clothes separately on the first wash to avoid discoloration. We do not recommend putting viscose products in the dryer. Let them dry in the air. The fabric wrinkles quickly and can therefore be ironed.
Wool:
Wool should be washed carefully. This is because this material can still shrink in the wash. Wash your wool items on a cold hand wash or take your wool items to the dry cleaners. Be careful when drying wool. Lay your clothes flat on a towel, for example. If you hang the item out or wring it dry it will lose its shape.
Common problems
-
Pilling:
Pilling occurs while wearing and washing your clothing because it rubs against each other. This happens to clothing that consists of woolly, voluminous fabrics. This has nothing to do with the quality of your clothing. How to treat it? You can maintain your clothing with a pill tool or a pill comb. How do you prevent pilling? Wash your clothes on wool wash and do not wash them together with sharp objects. Use water up to 30 degrees and dry the item flat and never put it in the dryer.
-
Shrinks:
Everyone's nightmare. Your clothes come out of the wash shrunken. Unfortunately, this is also an irreversible situation. The clothing has been washed too hot. How do you prevent shrinkage? It is advisable to never wash your clothes too hot and not put them in the dryer for too long and too hot. Always read the washing labels and preferably never wash higher than 30 degrees.
-
Discoloration:
When your clothes come out of the wash discolored, unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it. These items have been washed too hot. How to avoid discoloration? First, make sure you divide the laundry well. Color by color and white by white. Use a wash program that is not too hot and wash your clothes inside out. In addition, it is advisable to use clothing vinegar.
-
Distorted/stretched:
Is your clothing stretched after washing? Then, unfortunately, this is beyond repair. The garment was either washed too hot or hung out at at. As a result, the fibers are damaged and stretched and unfortunately do not return to their original shape. How do you prevent distortion? Always read the washing labels carefully. They show how the item should be dried. With wool sweaters, for example, it is advisable to dry them flat on a towel. If you hang it out, the sweater will stretch due to its weight.
